Auto Liability Insurance, A Better Car Liability Insurance Choice |
It’s not easy to earn a living, pay the mortgage or sometimes even put food on the table. The cost of living shouldn’t have to be any higher or harder to obtain than it already is. Many of us are living paycheck to paycheck. With these things in mind, taking care of our financial risks is crucial.
How many daily risks do we take? Most of us drive to work with the rest of society through rush hour traffic.
Some of us are talking on the phone while others are somehow enjoying breakfast on the go. Some of you probably seen Drivers with donuts in one hand and coffee in the other; focusing on driving with their knee. If you take a moment and really pay attention to the some of the drivers out there you will see that many of them are on auto pilot. It’s really pretty scary when you come to think about it. Do you know the person driving beside you? How they think or what’s really going through their mind is information you don’t have. You can only hope they’re paying attention. The best thing that you can do is drive as safe as you possibly can, hope for the best and be prepared for the worst. When choosing your auto insurance, it is important to get the right coverage. A contract providing the best financial protection in the event something does happen. For some of us, getting the right coverage means getting the lowest rate but I will tell you, that is not the best way to go about it if you really want to be financially protected from life’s uncertainties. In the state you live, your Government will require that you maintain a minimum liability insurance requirement before driving. State minimum liability limits will vary from state to state.
Warning: State minimum required limits are known to be too low in some states.
Liability Coverage – Go for better protection
When getting auto insurance one thing that you will need to decide is: what limits you choose for your liability insurance coverage. In most cases you will choose from a variety of split limits available. An example of the state minimum liability limits is 15/30/10. 15 or $15,000 represent the total amount your insurance company will pay out for bodily injury you cause to one person in an accident. The 30 represents $30,000; which your insurance company will pay out in total for the sum of all on the injuries caused in one accident. So if you hurt three people causing $15,000 of bodily injury to each, only the first two will be covered by your Insurer since $30,000 is the total limit. The last number “10″ represents $10,000 your insurance company pay total for any damages you cause to the other Person’s vehicle.
As you probably already know hospital bills as well as car body repairs can be very expensive. The thing you must ask yourself is, “are my liability limits set to an amount I feel comfortable with?” Anything that your insurance company does not pay, you will be held liable for. If you have these limits and smash into a luxury vehicle, do you really want to pay the remaining $22,000 still owed after your insurance company already paid it’s share? Heck no. This is what insurance is for; your financial protection against uncertain loss. Many insurance companies will recommend that you carry liability limits of 100/300/100. I’m personally comfortable with my 50/100/25 policy. The cost difference between the limits I chose and the state minimum required limits is about $90 annually. Having the feeling of a more secure financial future is well worth my $7.50 a month. Ultimately it’s up to you to decide where your comfort level sits. By selecting higher limits you decrease your chances of loss tremendously. Like I mentioned at the beginning of this article; it’s not easy earning a living or the things we own. Protect them as well as you can.
The two best ways to get low cost car insurance is by comparing rates online and reducing risk.
